We stayed at Insomnia Kyoto Oike for six nights, and it was the most pampering, comfortable, cozy, and friendly-designed hotel I’ve stayed at in Japan – and possibly anywhere. The hotel is perfectly located, just a short walk from the train station and about a 20-minute walk to Nishiki Market. The hotel offers everything you could need to make your stay pleasant and welcoming. The rooms are clean, spacious, and beautifully designed, with a fantastic bathroom and all the amenities you could ask for. The lobby features a cozy social lounge with light refreshments available 24/7, including a wide selection of hot and cold drinks, and even a beer/wine machine for only 500 yen per glass. Additional thoughtful features include a washing machine and dryer, a coin exchange machine, bicycles for guest use, refillable water bottles, and more. Everything is designed with the guest’s comfort in mind – simply amazing! When I return to Kyoto, this will undoubtedly be the hotel I choose, without hesitation.

Staff were helpful. Hotel seemed new. Room was lovely, tastefully decorated and shower is awesome. We had a little table with chairs which was very useful. The hotel is on a side street off the main road, so very quiet - and no noise from adjoining rooms. Close to the underground station and a fifteen minute walk to the main shopping strip. No breakfast, but free coffee and pastries/bread - and the 7 eleven is close by. We were able to store our cases under the bed making the room seem less messy. My wife asked for softer pillows and this was not a problem Everything was great in this hotel and we would definitely recommend it!

The Insomnia exceeded our expectations. Of the 4 different hotels my daughter and I stayed in while in Japan for 2 weeks this was by far our favorite. Very thoughtful room layout and attention to the small details such as: L shaped couch in corner, black out curtains, free espresso machine in lobby, separate toilet room from shower. Staff was helpful when asked and one senior staff went out of her way to make us feel welcome. The design of the hotel itself with elevators in the middle so that hallways are even private~we felt like we had the place to ourselves despite the place having many other guests.

There were so many aspects of the hotel which i loved and are great benefits when comparing to other hotels i have stayed in throughout Japan. 1. Free snacks - Nuts and japanese chippies 2. Breakfast - Kyoto is famous for bread and pastry and in my 4 days there, there was a rotating menu of delicious bread. 3. Free water bottles and re-fillable water - Just so handy as a traveller! 4. Alcohol “vending machine” - For a 500 yen coin, you could get a glass of red, white, japanese whisky or sake 5. Location - As a 1st timer in Kyoto, the hotel was such an easy option to getting around Kyoto!

I liked the simplicity of the layout of the whole hotel. Nice lobby area that is shared directly with the lounge that has a cool, hip, relaxing vibe. Fun and Japan themed books to read sit on the shelves and neat games to play are freely available. There's an amazing selection of different, delicious breads to snack on. Enjoyed the latte machine and the cold juice and coffee offered. They play music from a cool record player in the lounge. Fantastic shower area in the rooms with all kinds of water and cleaning options. Nice room layout overall.
